It&#039;s just been repeated so many times that it&#039;s become truth!&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;The quote from the NYT article is, &quot;Avoid using table salt, which typically contains anti-caking agents and other additives that can cause problems. Instead, try mixing a teaspoon of pickling salt with a pint of water.&quot; That&#039;s the clearest explanation I&#039;ve gotten. The &quot;problems&quot; are probably irritation to the nasal cavities. This is one of the reasons I switched to using prepared saline packets.</description>
