The Marriage of Figaro This Weekend

February 28, 2011 By Ian Sidden

We’ve entered production week here in southern New Mexico for Le nozze di Figaro.

This is going to be awesome.

Tonight is the first real tech rehearsal that includes us the cast, and I’m very excited to see Corazon Martinez’s sets. It’s also the first time that we’ll get to explore these fantastic scenes in the theater.

As for those scenes, we’ve worked very hard – alongside director Andrew Zimmerman – to keep this fast-paced plot fun and understandable. My colleagues here are courageous with their acting and musical choices, and I’m very proud of the work we’ve done.

If you’re in southern New Mexico, please come and see our show. We open this Friday (I’m in the Friday/Sunday casts if that’s important to you), and the tickets are $15 and $12 and $5 for students.

If you’re not in the area, then you can watch the performance for free on the NMSU Mediasite website. Here’s the link:

On the night of the performance, a link will appear there that will take you to the video feed. Unfortunately, there are no supertitles in the stream, so you might want to find a libretto to help you follow along. Ah look, here’s one from Google Books:

We’ve made a few cuts in the interest of running time, but that can give you an idea of what’s going on before the stream begins.

I hope to see you this weekend! If you can’t be there and can only watch the stream, then I’d love to know what you think of the show. Leave a comment or shoot me an email at [email protected].

Training Singing, Practicing Strength

In the past few years, I’ve begun viewing my singing work in a similar manner to my weight training. And vice versa. The two share obvious similarities. We use time and effort to get better: We want more power. We want more endurance. We want more agility. We want to be more durable. We want […]

Premiere: Fernand Cortez

Tonight we premiere our production of Gaspare Spontini’s Fernand Cortez, ou La conquête du Mexique at Opernhaus Dortmund. This is after a two year delay; originally we were to have premiered this in 2020, but history intervened. There are many versions of this opera floating around, and we are doing a version that has – […]

Premiere: Frédégonde

Here’s one I’ve been looking forward to for awhile. Tonight at Opernhaus Dortmund, we’re premiering Frédegonde for the first time in Germany. It’s a work inspired from the early history of the Merovingians in what is now France and the ongoing feud between two of the queens, Brunhild and Frédegonde. The work was composed by […]

PREMIERE: Tosca

Tonight at Opernhaus Dortmund, we’re premiering our “Tosca”, which is the first premiere including the chorus since March 13, 2020.
