Just last week, I wrote the post 5 Services for Data Portability to emphasize the danger of leaving one’s only copy of some piece of data on one physical device like a USB stick.
Or a laptop.
Ironically my laptop’s hard-drive died a few days after that, which would have been super lame had I not signed up for yet another service last summer before I moved out east. It quietly saved everything over the internet because I figured that this day would come.

I’ve installed a new hard-drive, and my files are being restored over the course of a few days. Whew.
